Requesting Housing Accommodations
In compliance with applicable state and federal laws, some students with disabilities/access needs may receive consideration regarding their housing placement. Housing accommodations may include but are not limited to; single rooms, emotional support animals, and first floor housing. All accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis and will only be considered for students with physical, medical, psychological, or sensory disabilities that are appropriately documented and determined to impact a major life activity.
Reasonable accommodations are determined following an individualized assessment of each request. Among the factors considered in determining reasonable accommodations for students are:
- The nature of the student’s disability including the student’s current symptoms and limitations
- The functional limitations necessitating the requested accommodation(s)
- Whether there is any alternate accommodation(s) that is equally effective in meeting the student’s identified needs
- Whether the requested accommodation will alter the essential requirements of campus housing
- The appropriateness and essential nature of the requested accommodations.
Steps to Request and Establish Housing Accommodations
Students requesting housing accommodations must complete an application and submit documentation (see documentation guidelines below). Please include all relevant information in your personal statement in the application that makes a connection between the disability related impacts and the requested accommodation(s). Once the application is submitted, you’ll be prompted to uploading your supporting documentation. Alternatively, you may email documentation to academicsupport@2fitfashion.com.
*The application for housing accommodations for next year (2025-2026 school year) will be available starting in January 2025.
Documentation guidelines for housing accommodation requests:
It is highly recommended that your medical/mental health provider complete the Housing Accommodation Documentation Form.
Alternatively, you may submit documentation that meets the following guidelines:
The documentation must be on letterhead, typed, dated, and signed. The information must be from a qualified/licensed professional (e.g., physician, psychiatrist, psychologist, mental health counselor, etc.), who is unrelated to the student, and whose credentials permit the evaluation of the disability. The following guidelines are provided to assist students in obtaining documentation to establish the need for reasonable accommodations:
A specific diagnosis
Description of the current functional limitations/symptoms
Licensure and experience of medical/mental health professional (should not be a relative of the student)
What and how are any major life (including housing/residence life) activities substantially limited by the disability/condition? Please include the severity/frequency of the limitation.
A list of recommended housing accommodations, which might be needed to facilitate the student’s participation in campus housing.
Note: All information/documentation that is submitted by students is considered confidential and held in Academic Support Services.
Follow up with PASS and Residence Life & Housing if you have not heard back on the status of your application as deadlines draw near. If there are any concerns, questions, or difficulties that need to be addressed, please contact housing@2fitfashion.com or academicsupport@2fitfashion.com as soon as possible. We will quickly do our best to facilitate the accommodation process and offer support.
Residence Life & Housing will do their best to match up accommodations with listed preferences regarding residence hall or roommate, but ultimately will place students in a space that meets their approved accommodation needs. Please note that many single rooms are within suites that contain only single rooms. Students requesting a room change will need to contact Residence Life & Housing.
Each academic year, students with housing accommodations will need to reapply for accommodations through the same process.
Note: Documented and approved accommodation requests which include access to a single room will be charged the double room rate.
